Volleyball Wins Back-to-Back Sets in 3-1 Victory Against Truett McConnell

ATHENS, Tenn.- The volleyball team won their 12th match of the season on Friday. The team opened the weekend with a 3-1 win against the Truett McConnell University Lady Bears. 

The first set of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) went to extra points as the final score was 30-28. Nyah Hudson put the set in a 5-5 tie and back-to-back kills by Alley Hibdon and Ella Brannan helped TWU lead 7-6. The point kept coming for the Lady Bulldogs, moving their lead to 18-12 after points by Hunter Ford, Amya Sutton, and Kianna Wickham.

The momentum changed in the set as the opponents came back to tie the score 23-23. Trailing 28-27, Tennessee Wesleyan used three straight points by Ford and Hibdon to win the exciting first set.

The momentum did not carry to the second set though as Truett McConnell turned a 7-6 lead into a 19-10 lead. The Lady Bulldogs went on to fall in the set 25-17.

Tennessee Wesleyan clinched the match with back-to-back 25-19 wins in the third and fourth sets. 

Savannah Jones, Ford, and Sutton helped the team scored the first four points of the third set. After seeing Truett McConnell pull within one point of the lead, the Lady Bulldogs scored four straight points to lead 11-6. A service ace by Hibdon pushed the score to 18-11 and a kill by Sutton gave TWU the win in the third set. 

Through the first 25 points of the fourth set, neither team held a lead larger than one. With the score 13-12 in favor of the opponents, the Lady Bulldogs scored five straight points and nine of the next ten points to lead 21-14. Jones hit the final point of the match in the team's 3-1.

Sutton led the offense with 15 kills while Hibdon added 12 kills. Bailey Dalton aided the offense with 23 assists. 

Tennessee Wesleyan (12-6, 4-2 AAC) will be back in action on Saturday on their home floor against Montreat College at 11:00 a.m.
