Volleyball Defeated by Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky.- The volleyball team saw a three-match win streak snapped on Tuesday, falling on the road 3-0 to Union Commonwealth University.

Tennessee Wesleyan traded point for point early, with Savannah Jones, Amya Sutton, and Ella Brannan putting away kills to keep it even. A service ace from Gracelyn Jackson and back-to-back kills by Sutton pushed the Lady Bulldogs ahead 20-18, forcing a Union timeout. TWU held set point at 25-24 after another Brannan swing, but Union responded with a 3-0 run to steal the frame, 27-25.

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 14-9 but clawed back with a 5-0 run sparked by Megan Thompson's service ace and kills from Jones and Jackson. Nyah Hudson and Sutton chipped in kills to close the gap to 19-18, but Union countered with timely points to finish the set 25-20.

Tennessee Wesleyan hung tight early, tying the score at 7-7 on kills from Sutton and Hudson and a block assist from Hibdon and Jones. Brannan and Alley Hibdon kept the Lady Bulldogs close midway through, but Union built separation with a 6-1 run. A late Sutton kill trimmed the margin, but Union closed out the set 25-16 to complete the sweep.

TWU (11-6, 3-2 AAC) will play their next two matches at home, beginning with a conference match against Truett McConnell University on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
