Volleyball Dominates Toccoa Falls
ATHENS, Tenn.- The volleyball team was on their home court for the first time this season on Tuesday. The team left their home opener with their second consecutive sweep, this time with a 3-0 win against the Toccoa Falls College Screaming Eagles.
The Lady Bulldogs came out sharp, scoring the first 11 points of the set using a combination of methods, including Amya Sutton's quick start at the net and Savannah Jones' serving to build momentum. Alley Hibdon added kills of her own while running the offense, and Ella Brannan chipped in a late putaway to close the frame 25-13.
Toccoa Falls challenged in the second set, holding a lead for a lot of the set. But Tennessee Wesleyan's balance proved decisive. Sutton continued to deliver with powerful swings, while Nyah Hudson, Brannan, and Audra Capps added key points in the middle. Hibdon and Bailey Dalton set up the attack with precision as TWU held off a late push to win 25-21.
Tennessee Wesleyan dominated the final set, jumping ahead early on service aces from Megan Thompson and Talynn Wheeler. Hudson and Hunter Ford controlled the net, while Sutton finished the night with back-to-back kills. The Bulldogs cruised to a 25-14 win to seal the sweep.
Sutton led the offense with 14 kills while Hudson and Hibdon had nine kills each. Hibdon also added 19 assists to go along with 17 assists by Dalton.
TWU (8-4) will play their first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game on Friday when they host the University of Pikeville. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
