No. 1 Seed Women's Tennis Finishes as AAC Tournament Runner-Up
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The women's tennis team competed for a championship on Saturday. The top seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament faced the No. 2 seed in the field, the SCAD Atlanta Bees. Unfortunately, the team fell on the wrong side of a battle, falling 4-3 to the Bees.
Tennessee Wesleyan started out with the lead after winning the doubles point. Ivet Prat and Mercedes Chasset took the No. 2 doubles match 6-3 and Honoka Tsuji and Julia Richardet won the No. 3 doubles 6-3.
In the singles battles, the Lady Bulldogs picked up wins in the No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles. Prat won the No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2 while Tsuji won the No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-4. Two of the remaining four singles matches went to three sets, but TWU was unable to turn any of them in their favor, falling in the close contest.
The team will now wait to see if they get an at-large bid to the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Tournament. The qualifiers for the tournament will be released on April 29. The tournament is set to be played May 13-17 in Mobile, Ala.
