Women's Tennis Upsets No. 4 Seed to Advance to NAIA Tournament Round of Eight for First Time in Program History

Mobile, Ala.- The women's tennis team was back in action at the 2023 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Tournament on Wednesday. The team, seeded No. 13, returned to the court to play in their third consecutive second round in the national tournament. The opponent they faced was the No. 2 seed Lousiana State University Alexandria Lady Generals.

Unfortunately, the team found themselves in a hole early as LSUA took the doubles point to lead 1-0. The hole grew though as LSUA won two singles matches to put the Lady Bulldogs on the brink of elimination with the score 3-1. Wins in the singles matches from Olivia Alcala, Josefa Fernandez, Mercedes Chasset, and Raquel Canadas helped the team complete a comeback, and send them to the round of eight for the first time in program history. The win also marked the first time the team had won two matches in the NAIA Tournament.

TWU (13-3) will play in their first-ever Round of Eight on Thursday. The team will face the No. 5 seed, Ave Maria University at 9:00 a.m.
