ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team is going to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Championship game! The second-seeded Lady Bulldogs beat the No. 3 seed Milligan University Lady Buffaloes 1-0 to advance to their third consecutive title game.
From the time the whistle blew, TWU showed aggressiveness on offense, outpacing Milligan 18-3 in corner kicks. Eleven of the corner kicks occurred in the first half. As the Lady Bulldogs continued to apply pressure, the dam broke in the 25th minute. Stina Braun connected with a ball that the opposing goalkeeper was not able to stop, giving Tennessee Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. The defense limited Milligan to just one shot in the first half and went into the break holding their one-goal advantage.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to push for a second goal through shots from Iara Tello, Jenna Vest, Julia Starchl, Marta Hernan, Estefania Garro, and Braun. Even though the team did not find the insurance goal, the defense kept Milligan out of the net, securing a trip to the championship game.
TWU (14-2) will play for the AAC Tournament Championship on Saturday at No. 1 seed Truett McConnell University. A time has not been announced at the time of this writing.
