No. 2 Seed Women's Soccer Advance to AAC Tournament Semis

ATHENS, Tenn.- A defensive strife ended with a 1-0 win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Quaterfinal for the women's soccer team on Saturday. The second-seeded Lady Bulldogs were playing the seventh-seeded Brenau University Golden Tigers.

TWU controlled the pace of the game, outshooting the Golden Tigers 16-2 and leading the game in corner kicks 14-1. Iara Tello took the first shot of the game and was followed by shots by Valerie Koopman, Marta Hernan, and Addison Smith.

To begin the second half, the Lady Bulldogs forced four consecutive corner kicks and had a fifth one sandwiched in between shots by Lisa Kirwan and Smith. The game-deciding goal came on the board for the team in the 66th minute. Tello and Smith hit consecutive headers to Stina Braun, who put the pass into the net to give the team the 1-0 lead they won with.

The win moves Tennessee Wesleyan (13-2) into the AAC Tournament Semifinals, where they will host No. 3 seed Milligan University on Tuesday. A game time has not been announced.
