Women's Soccer Explodes for Seven Goals in Union Win

ATHENS, Tenn. — Tennessee Wesleyan put together one of its most complete offensive performances of the season Wednesday afternoon, powering past Union Commonwealth 7–2 in a dominant Appalachian Athletic Conference showing.

The Bulldogs (9–2, 8–2 AAC) wasted little time setting the tone, finding the back of the net three times in a dazzling four-minute stretch midway through the first half. Addison Smith opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Stina Braun doubled the lead just two minutes later off a precise assist from Rosie Dunkerton. Moments after that, Iara Tello made it 3–0, finishing a smooth sequence set up by Smith and Marta Hernán.

After a brief Union response, Tennessee Wesleyan regained full control late in the first half. Dunkerton drew a penalty, and Valerie Koopman calmly buried the ensuing kick to send the Bulldogs into the break ahead 4–1.

TWU's attack stayed relentless in the second half. Smith notched her second and third goals of the afternoon, both assisted by Kyndal Stafford, to extend the lead to 6–1 and complete the hat trick. The Bulldogs' crisp passing and fluid movement kept Union pinned deep for much of the half, with Koopman continuing to create havoc on set pieces, registering multiple corners and chances.

After Union added one back, Tennessee Wesleyan capped the day with a final flourish as Lisa Kirwan converted in the 85th minute to seal the 7–2 win.

Goalkeepers Ana Martinez and Marlin Beltran split time in net, combining for key saves to keep the Bulldogs in control.

With seven goals from six different contributors, Tennessee Wesleyan showcased the balance and depth that has fueled its climb in the AAC standings. The Bulldogs will look to carry that momentum into their next conference matchup as postseason play nears.
