ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team scored five goals for the third time this season. This time, the five goals were scored against the Brenau University Golden Tigers in a 5-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win.
For only the second time this season, the Lady Bulldogs trailed in the first half after a goal by Brenau in the 14th minute. Addison Smith made sure Tennessee Wesleyan was not trailing for long though, taking a pass from Stina Braun and booting it into the net in the 17th minute. Iara Tello gave the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead in the 22nd minute, blasting a ball into the net that gave the team the advantage at the halftime break.
A pair of goals off free kicks changed the complexion of the game. The first free-kick goal was scored by Brenau in the 57th minute. In the 72nd minute, Rosie Dunkerton hammered a free kick into the back of the net, breaking the tie, and TWU went on to add two more insurance goals in the final nine minutes of the game. Braun was on the scoring end of the first one, taking a pass from Natascha Frei and turning it into a 4-2 lead for the team. Caitlin Bleeker gave the team their fifth goal of the contest, scoring off a pass by Braun.
