Women's Soccer Upsets No. 14 Campbellsville in Season Opener

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The women's soccer team went on the road to play their first game of the 2025 season on Thursday. Tennessee Wesleyan took the first lead of the game and never looked back in a 3-1 win against the No. 14-ranked Campbellsville University Lady Tigers.

Julia Starchl got the Lady Bulldogs on the board with a goal in the 13th minute of the game. While the team did not score for the remainder of the half, TWU kept Campbellsville out of the net, defending six shots to lead 1-0 at halftime.

Six minutes into the second half, Starchl recorded her second goal of the game, moving the team's lead to 2-0. Five minutes later, Campbellsville cut into the lead, scoring in the 55th minute. The defense stood their ground, though, and Natascha Frei added an insurance goal for the Lady Bulldogs in the 75th minute in the team's upset road win.

Ana Martinez finished with six saves in the net.

Tennessee Wesleyan (1-0) stays on the road for their next regular-season game when they travel to face Columbia College in their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener on Saturday, Sept. 6. The game is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
