Women's Basketball Opens 2025-26 Season with Win Against Point

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 75-56 win on Wednesday. The team won the game over the Point University Lady Skyhawks.

Jalaya Lindsey opened the game with a three-point basket, and Talley Lawson gave the team a 5-3 lead. Back-to-back-to-back layups by Camryn Brown and Lindsey forced the final lead change of the game and put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 11-6. Tennessee Wesleyan scored 10 of the next 12 points, taking a 21-8 lead off Jordan White's layup into the second quarter.

A three-pointer by Brown helped the Lady Bulldogs take a 24-14 lead two minutes into the second quarter. After seeing Point pull within six, Courtney Berry and Lawson made baskets to push the team back out by double-digits. TWU led by 16 points at the halfway point of the quarter after a Leslie Hames three-point basket made the score 34-18, and the Lady Bulldogs went into the halftime break leading 43-28 after a Lindsey layup.

Out of the halftime break, Sloan Carpenter pushed the lead to 45-30 after a pair of free throws. Lawson's layup with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter pushed Tennessee Wesleyan over the 50-point mark, moving the score to 51-32. The team continued to cruise on the scoreboard as back-to-back Hames three-point baskets gave the team a 57-38 advantage at the end of the third quarter. 

Lindsey opened the fourth quarter with a three-point basket to give the team their 60th point of the game and a 20-point advantage. After Lindsey pushed the team to 71 points with a layup, Alexis Kranz gave the team their largest lead of the game with a jumper making the score 73-52. Ella Canter scored the final basket for the team in their 19-point win.

Lindsey led the offense with 18 points, while Lawson had 15 points and Hames finished with 13 points.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (1-0) is a home contest against Life University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
