Softball Falls to Brenau

ATHENS, Tenn.- The softball team was back on their home field on Thursday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) against the Brenau University Golden Tigers. The team fell in both games of the doubleheader.

Game One:

The start of the first game was a nightmare for the Lady Bulldogs as they fell behind by double digits early. The Lady Bulldogs would get some runs on the board in the third inning.

Ali Richards, Brantley Bruggink and Macy Chastain all hit singles to load the bases. Tatum Massengale and Brooke Freeman made it five straight singles, helping the team score two runs as Richards and Bruggink scored on their singles. Chastain scored on an Ashley Allen ground out while back-to-back-to-back walks by Katie Willett, Brooklynn Deaver, Ali Richards brought in Massengale, Freeman, and Taylor Rose, giving the team six runs in the game. The team was not able to find more runs though, falling in the game 18-6.

Game Two:

Massengale's home run in the bottom of the first inning gave TWU the first lead of the game, bringing in Chastain in the process. Massengale moved the team's lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly scoring Richards in the third inning.

After a run by Brenau in the fourth inning, Courtney Wilson brought in a run in the bottom half of the inning. A double by Wilson gave Olivia McNabb the space to score, making the score 4-1. The momentum changed when Brenau scored four runs in the fifth inning and the Lady Bulldogs were not able to come back, falling in the game 5-4.

The loss moved the team's record to 6-19 overall and 6-14 in the AAC.
