Softball Falls to Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The softball team was unable to find a win against the Johnson University Lady Royals on Monday. The team fell in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader 7-1 and 5-4 in eight innings.

Game One:

Tennessee Wesleyan took the first lead of the game in the first inning. Taylor Rose started the game with a single and was joined on base by Brantley Bruggink and Tatum Massengale, who each got on with walks. A sacrifice fly by Brooke Freeman gave Rose the time the score, pushing the team ahead 1-0 at the end of the first.

TWU held the lead until third inning, where the opponents scored in the remaining innings to take the first game.

Game Two:

The Lady Bulldogs turned bases loaded in the third inning and fourth inning into two runs both times. Three consecutive singles by Rose, Macy Chastain, and Massengale put the three of them on base. A fielder's choice on Freeman's hit resulted in an error, allowing both Rose and Chastain to score.

In the fourth inning, Avery Hope, Courtney Wilson, and Ali Richards occupied the bases. A fielder's choice on Chastain's at-bat gave Hope the chance to score, moving the lead to 3-0. An error on the hit by Massengale gave Wilson the time to score, giving the team a 4-0 lead.

The opponents came back to tie the game in the seventh inning, and scored the winning run in the eighth inning to sweep the doubleheader.
