Men's Tennis Sweeps Major AAC Awards

Waleska, Ga.- The end-of-the-year awards were announced by the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) for men's tennis on Thursday. Tennessee Wesleyan had numerous accolades attached to their program. The awards are voted on by the coaches of the conference.

For the third consecutive season, Gabriel Ortiz was named the Men's Tennis Player of the Year. The 2021 Freshman of the Year was also named to the All-AAC First Team.

Sabi Roi was named the Freshman of the Year. Roi also found a spot on the All-AAC Second Team.

Head coach Francisco Gallardo was named the Coach of the Year. This is the third straight season Gallardo has won the award for men's tennis.

Joining Ortiz on the All-AAC First Team were Ruben Busch, Nicolas Cortes Campos, and German Delcanto. Jesus Fernandez joined Roi as a member of the All-AAC Second Team.

Campos and Roi were both named to the AAC All-Freshmen Team.

Yanael Lundqvist was the team's representative on the AAC Champions of Character Team. To be named to the Champions of Character Team, a player must exhibit the NAIA's Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.

Six players earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team. Zolio Bolea, Busch, Tomas Cabanillas, Fernandez, Patricio Gallegos and Luis Rosselot. To earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be in sophomore in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 grade-point average.
