Men's Soccer Scores Four Unanswered Goals to Defeat Montreat

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.- Four second half goals helped the men's soccer team overcome a halftime deficit against the Montreat College Cavaliers on Saturday. TWU won the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game by a score of 5-2.

The Bulldogs came out firing as they took the first four shots of the game. The attempts by Cameron Grooms, David Tayau and Nicko Bellot did not find their way in the net though. In the 23rd minute, a shot went into the back of the goal. Unfortunately, it went in for Montreat. Robin Vezinhet put the game in a 1-1 tie with his goal on Felipe dos Santos' assists in the 32nd minute. With less than three minutes left before halftime, the opponents scored again, taking a 2-1 lead into the break.

The scoring spree that brought Tennessee Wesleyan back started in the 49th minute. Jake Fisher was the goal-scorer that tied the game 2-2. the remaining three goals for the Bulldogs came in a span of nine minutes. Twenty-six minutes after their opening goal of the second half, Nicko Bellot gave TWU the lead. Julien Withrow moved the lead to two goals in the 81st minute and David Tayau added an insurance goal in the 84th minute in the team's three-goal win.

Kasper Ulfarsson had four saves in the win.

The win moved the Bulldogs record to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the AAC. The team will return to their home field on Wednesday for a conference game against Union Commonwealth University at 3:30 p.m.
