Men's Soccer Use Late Goal to Sink Spartanburg Methodist

ATHENS, Tenn.- A goal in the second half propelled the men's soccer to an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win over the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers on Saturday. Tennessee Wesleyan won the first-ever meeting between the two programs 2-1. 

The scoring started in the second minute of the game when Nicko Bellot converted a penalty kick, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. In the 19th minute of the game though, Spartanburg Methodist scored to tie the match. The score remained tied at the halftime break. 

After back and forth play by both teams, the Bulldogs scored the goal which put them ahead in the 74th minute. Bellot's second goal of the game put the team ahead for good, scoring a goal off a Robin Vezinhet assist. 

Kasper Ulfarrsson got the win in the net, finished with four saves.

TWU (4-4, 3-2 AAC) will go on the road to play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday against No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett College. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
