CLEVELAND, Ga.- The men's soccer team fell in a close road contest on Wednesday against the Truett McConnell University Bears. Both teams scored in the second half of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game but a goal in the first half helped the opponents defeat the Bulldogs 2-1.
Though the team came out firing in the first half to the tune of nine shots, none of the goals found the paydirt Tennessee Wesleyan was looking for. Truett McConnell was able to find a goal early in the game, putting the Bulldogs in a 1-0 hole in the fourth minute of the game that carried over into the halftime break.
Out of the intermission, TWU was able to find an equalizer. In the 51st minute, Robin Vezinhet turned David Tayau's pass into a goal, tying the game 1-1. Unfortunately, Truett McConnell scored a few minutes later to take the lead back. The Bulldogs were not able to find a game-tying or winning in the remaining time, seeing their two-game win streak come to an end on the road.
Tennessee Wesleyan (3-4, 2-2 AAC) will return to their home field on Saturday to play the newcomers to the AAC, Spartanburg Methodist College. The first-ever meeting between the two teams is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
