COLUMBIA, S.C.- The men's soccer team had a rough outing in their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener on Saturday. The team fell to the Columbia College Koalas 2-1.
Defense was the theme of the first half as neither team was able to score over those 45 minutes. Tennessee Wesleyan got shots by Jake Fisher and Francesco Conti, but those missed their mark. Astolfi Ange and the defense were able to defend five shots by the Koalas to keep the game in a scoreless tie at the halftime break.
The score changed three minutes into the second half. Unfortunately, Columbia scored the goal to take a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Nicko Bellot tied the game with a goal. In the 79th minute, the opponents broke the tie and the Bulldogs were not able to find an equalizer as they fell in their conference opener.
Ange finished with five saves.
Up next for TWU (1-3, 0-1 AAC) is a road trip to Milligan University for a game on Wednesday. The conference game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
