ATHENS, Tenn.- The first win of the Dave Baisden era occurred on Thursday. The men's soccer team won a thrilling game against the Faulkner University Eagles 2-1 at the TWU Athletic Complex.
Tennessee Wesleyan scored the first goal of the game. A sequence that saw touches from Sifiso Ngwenya and Robin Vezinhet ended with Nicko Bellot putting a ball in the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute. Disaster struck as Faulkner scored a goal in the 19th minute to tie the game. Things got tougher for TWU as they were forced to play man-down due to a red card in the 42nd minute.
The difference-maker for the Bulldogs came in the 74th minute. Bellot recorded his second goal of the game, this time off a free kick, to push Tennessee Wesleyan ahead 2-1. The defense, which became two-man down after a second yellow card was given to a player with three minutes remaining in the game, did not allow the Eagles to tie the game in helping the team win their first game of the season.
Astolfi Ange had two saves in the net.
Up next for the Bulldogs (1-1) is their first road game of the season against WVU Tech. The game is set for Monday at 3:00 p.m.
