No. 5 Baseball Slugs Five Homers in First Road Game

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The fifth-ranked baseball team went on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday. The team used five home runs to slug their way to a 20-7 win in seven innings.

With Ethan Wright and Kolton Reynolds standing on base, Josh Shelly hit the first of the five home runs to give the team a 3-0 lead in a eight-run first inning. David Ballenilla added to it when his triple brought in Cody McGill, who scored from first. A triple by Brayan Espinoza brought in two more runs while a sacrifice fly by Rob Gordon brought in Espinoza. Wright returned to the dish and hit the team's second home run to end the eight-run inning.

After seeing the lead cut in half, the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the third inning. With two runners on base, an error caused by Allan Gil Fernandez's hit brought in both baserunners. Shelly picked up his fourth RBI of the game when Fernandez scored on his single. With two runners still on base, McGill loaded the bases with a walk. Errors on Ballenilla's and O'Neill's at-bats allowed Reynolds, Shelly, and McGill to score, moving the lead to 14-4. A wild pitch gave Ballenilla the chance to score, giving the team an 11-run lead after the third inning.

The sixth inning saw home run three and four occur. They came in back-to-back at-bats by Wright and Fernandez, moving the score to 18-7. The fifth and final homer of the game came off the bat of Espinoza in the seventh inning, moving the team to the 20-7 score they went on to win with.

Espinoza finished the game with five RBIs while Shelly had four RBIs.

The win moved the team's record to 8-0 overall.
