No. 22 Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Indiana Tech
ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team, ranked No. 22 in the NAIA, returned to Jack Bowling Field on Wednesday to finish the series against the Indiana Tech Warriors. TWU won the first game of the series on Tuesday.
Marco Martinez put the Bulldogs ahead early with a two-run home run as Braxton Turner stood on first. Jack Stevens got on base with a hit by pitch and moved to third on a Cayle Webster double. Evan Magill brought Stevens home with a single, moving the score to 3-0. A fielder's choice on Jacob Tolson's at-bat made the score 4-0 at the end of the inning as Webster scored.
After seeing a score by the Warriors in the top of the fourth, Stevens got the run back plus more. As Blake Hubble stood on first after a single, Stevens belted a pitch over the left field wall, to extend the lead to 6-1. Magill brought in Webster later in the inning, giving the team a 7-1 lead after four innings.
In the fifth, Carson Ford expanded the lead with a solo home run to center field while Martinez brought Turner, who hit a double, home with a double of his own, moving the lead to 9-1. The final score read 12-4 after a three-run homer in the sixth inning. The homer was hit by Cody McGill as Hagen Escoto and Chad Picton stood on base.
Martinez and McGill both finished with three RBIs in the win while Magill and Stevens both had two RBIs. Christian Delashmit got the pitching win.
This was the fifth consecutive win for TWU (14-9). The team returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Kentucky Christian University to begin a conference series. The series will begin with a single game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
